CCLC Screens Food, Inc.

Film/Video

Saturday, February 13 7:00 pm (ET)

Trescott - The Cobcook Community Learning Center

The film committee at the Cobscook Community Learning Center has designated 2010 as a year of documentaries. February’s film is Food Inc., and it is a revealing look at the business of how we feed ourselves. In Food, Inc., which draws on Eric Schlosser's Fast Food Nation and Michael Pollan's The Omnivore's Dilemma, director Robert Kenner explores the food industry's detrimental effects on our health and environment. Kenner spotlights the men and women who are working to reform an industry rife with monopolies, questionable interpretations of laws and subsidies, political ties and rising rates of E. coli outbreaks. It's not too late to amend our New Year's resolutions to include some changes to the foods we consume and where they come from. Following the film, there will be a discussion of what people can do locally to disengage from the industrialized food system. Carly DelSignore of Tide Mill Organic Farm will be on hand to offer perspectives and information about the “eat local” movement that is growing in popularity. At this time of year, as we look ahead to lengthening days and seed catalogs, this film shows us that growing our own food is moving out of the arena of being a hobby into the arena of being a powerful political and environmental act. We hope you can join us. The film will be shown on February 13, 2010 at 7 pm at the CCLC in Trescott. A $3 donation is requested at the door.
